Mamoru Taniya joined StormHarbour in 2014 and is currently the Managing Principal & Co-CEO Asia-Pacific of StormHarbour and Chief Executive Officer of Asuka Asset Management Co., Ltd. In 2014, Asuka Asset Management has joined forces with StormHarbour and since then Taniya has spearheaded the Asset Management Business in Asia for StormHarbour. Tanyia has a broad range of investment experience spanning from fixed-income derivatives to private equities. Prior to founding Asuka, Taniya was a director at Tudor Capital Japan (1999-2002) and previously a managing director at Salomon Smith Barney. At Tudor he successfully started its private equity business in Japan. At Salomon, Taniya managed the Japan and Asia proprietary trading department. Prior to managing proprietary trading, he was responsible for the equity and fixed income derivatives trading for Salomon’s Tokyo operation. Before that, he managed volatility book and started the yen CB/Warrant trading desk at Salomon after his career as a bond fund manager. Taniya is also a renowned venture capitalist in Japan and also plays an important role at various NGO/NPO in Japan, such as the Representative Founder of International School of Asia, Karuizawa (ISAK), the first international boarding school in Japan, since its establishment. In addition, he is the Vice Chair Person of Human Rights Watch which is one of the world’s leading independent organizations dedicated to defending and protecting human rights and Director of Rebuild Japan Initiative Foundation. Taniya received his B.A. in law from the University of Tokyo, Japan in 1987.
